Mind Body Co-op became a Certified B Corporation in April 2023; joining a movement that identifies and celebrates companies with positive social and environmental impact. The Chicago-based outpatient mental health treatment center has 2 locations and shares this distinction with more than 2,500 companies in more than 50 nations worldwide and among the 54 B corps in Illinois. It is the only outpatient mental health practice that has been B corp certified in the United States.
Mind Body Co-op shares the B Corp community’s view that society’s most challenging problems cannot be addressed by government and non-profits alone and supports the B Corp mission of working to reduce inequality and poverty levels, promote a healthier environment and stronger communities, and create more high-quality jobs that have both dignity and purpose.
That all business ought to be conducted as if people and place mattered.
That, through their products, practices, and profits, businesses should aspire to do no harm and benefit all.
To do so requires that we act with the understanding that we are dependent upon one another and thus responsible for each other and future generations.
A Certified B Corporation must meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. For example, prominent Certified B Corporations include Ben & Jerry’s, Patagonia, Athleta, and Eileen Fisher.
“Mind Body Co-op has always been a purpose-driven organization,” Kellie Rice, Psy.D., Founder and CEO said. “We’ve been very focused on what we can do to limit our impact to the environment. We pursued the B Corp certification to help us make that clear; not just to ourselves, but to our partners and the public as well.”
