    Chicago Community LGBTQ+ Resource List

As we approach the end of Pride month, we want to shine a light on some of the amazing resources for the LGBTQ+ community here in Chicago. There are many important risk factors when it comes to LGBTQ+ mental health including coming out, rejection in society, ongoing trauma, substance use, homelessness, suicide, and inadequate mental health care as a whole. To help address some of these risk factors, the following organizations have made it their mission to help.

    AIDS Foundation of Chicago

The AIDS Foundation of Chicago is an advocacy organization that also provides essential HIV-related services to folks around Chicago. Some of their services include testing, prep, HIV and HCV health care, case management, housing, health insurance, and HIV education.

    Affinity Community Services

As a 25-year-old Black, queer-led organizaiton on Chicago’s Southside, Affinity Community Services is dedicated to social justice in the Black LGBTQ+ community. The organization providings community organizing, intergenerational programming, education, and healing justice through therapy.

    Chicago House

At Chicago House, the mission is to empower folks living with or vulnerable to HIV/AIDS to lead healthy lives. The organization does this through four program pillars: housing, health, employment services, and the TransLife Care program

    Center on Halsted

As one of the most well-known resources in Chicago for LGBTQ+ resources, Center on Halsted is one of the most comprehensive community centers dedicated to advancing community and securing health and wellbeing among LGBTQ+ folks. The organization offers a number of programs from anti-violence and behavioral health programs to senior and youth-focused programs.

The organization does not charge its clients for legal representation or advocacy.

    Mind Body Co-op Chicago

Mind Body Co-op believes human gender identity and sexuality exist on a spectrum. It is normal to be gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or gender non-conforming or two-spirited, queer, questioning, or asexual. It is normal to be kinky or to have lesser-known sexual interests. If someone is feeling distress as a result of stigma, trauma, or societal oppression related to sexual orientation or gender identity, Mind Body Co-op Chicago is ready to provide support through mental health services like psychotherapy, nutrition, gender-affirming health care, and more.

    The Night Ministry

Forty percent of youth experiencing homelessness are LGBTQ+, according to nonprofit True Colors United. Even more, kids of color are disproportionately impacted. In Chicago, The Night Ministry provides a vital first step toward safety and improved circumstances for those who are unhoused or experiencing housing instability. The NIght Ministry provides youth engagement services, early intervention services, long-term residential services, and other supportive services for adolescents and young adults in Chicago.

    Transformative Justice Law Project

At Chicago-based Transformative Justice Law Project, the long-term goal is to eliminate the root causes of inequality, violence, and oppression in the community so that prisons become obsolete and all communities can thrive. Some services the organization provides include name change mobilization, workshops and educational curricula, name change lawsuits, legal services, and guidance and updating gender markers.
