    Substance Use & Addiction

Drug and alcohol counseling, often referred to as substance abuse counseling or addiction counseling, is a specialized form of counseling or therapy that focuses on helping individuals who are struggling with substance abuse issues. These issues can include addiction to drugs (both legal and illegal) and alcohol. The primary goal of drug and alcohol counseling is to assist individuals and their families in overcoming their dependence on these substances and to provide them with the necessary tools to lead a healthier and more fulfilling life.

At Mind Body Co-op, we use a traditional, yet individualized treatment plan.  If you are recently discharged from a higher level of care, we can continue on the course of treatment that you found successful.  If you are wondering if you have an unmanageable relationship with a substance, we can help you get started on your journey.

Contact us for a Drug and Alcohol Assessment Today

    1. Assessment: We begin with an assessment of your substance abuse history, including the type and quantity of substances used, the duration of use, and the impact on your physical and mental health. This assessment helps us understand the client’s unique needs.

    2. Treatment Planning: Based on the assessment, we collaborate with the client to create a treatment plan tailored to their specific needs. This plan may include short-term and long-term goals, strategies for recovery, and interventions.

    3. Individual and Group Therapy: Counseling sessions can take place on an individual or group basis. Individual therapy allows for one-on-one interaction, while group therapy provides a supportive environment for clients to share their experiences and learn from others facing similar challenges.

    4. Behavioral Therapy: We customize our treatment approaches to each individual.  We use therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT),  DBT, and motivational interviewing. These therapies help clients identify triggers, develop coping strategies, and change behaviors related to substance use.

    5. Education: Our counselors provide clients with information about the effects of drugs and alcohol on the body and mind. This education can help clients better understand the consequences of their substance use.

    6. Relapse Prevention: A critical aspect of drug and alcohol counseling is relapse prevention. We help clients learn how to recognize potential triggers, develop strategies to avoid relapse, and address setbacks if they occur. Our nurse practitioners can also provide medicated-assisted treatment to help ease withdrawal and cravings.

    7. Support and Referrals: Counselors can connect clients with support groups, 12-step programs, and community resources that can further aid in their recovery.

    8. Holistic Approach: Our drug and alcohol counselors take a holistic approach, addressing not only the addiction but also the underlying psychological, emotional, and social issues that contribute to substance abuse.

    9. Confidentiality: Confidentiality is a crucial aspect of drug and alcohol counseling. Clients can expect that their conversations with our counselors will remain private unless there is a risk of harm to themselves or others.

    10. Licensure and Certification: Our drug and alcohol counselors are required to obtain specific certifications or licenses from the Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association. These credentials ensure that our counselors are trained and qualified to provide addiction counseling.

It’s important to note that drug and alcohol counseling is a specialized field.  The effectiveness of counseling can vary depending on the individual’s commitment to treatment and the approach used by the counselor. Family support and a strong social network can also play a significant role in the recovery process.
