At Mind Body Co-op we take internships and training very seriously.

Our Values and Visions speak to our belief in training the next generation of therapists in our integrative outpatient mental health model. We currently offer a variety of graduate training opportunities, including:

    Master’s Level:

    Doctorate Level:

    Post-Doctoral Fellowship:

*Currently, all staff and interns are working both in person and virtually.

Mind Body Co-op offers a unique internship experience, unlike any other in the Chicagoland area. As components of weekly individual supervision, intern group supervision, and clinical supervision, graduate interns will have access to a broad range of clinical experiences and training. Training during group supervision covers core competency areas such as LGBTQ affirmative practice, multisystemic/multicultural practice, somatic mindfulness therapy, creative expressive modalities, and trauma-informed practice. Interns have access to over 20 full-time staff with a variety of backgrounds and experiences.

    Masters-Level Internship Program

Masters-Level Graduate Internship Program: Open to second-year masters students studying Social Work, Clinical Counseling, or Psychology. MBC is a member of the ACEPT and follows the application timeline.

**Internship positions for the 2023-2024 school year are filled; we are no longer accepting applications.**

Mind Body Co-op requires a 10-month internship, August through May which will follow hour requirements of school requirements. We do not provide partial-year internships. Graduate interns are required to satisfy the graduate program’s clinical requirements with benchmark evaluations throughout the internship.

We believe in providing each student with as varied an experience as possible. Graduate interns engage in Mind Body Co-op activities which may include: therapy with individuals and couples, co-facilitating groups, program development, individual and group supervision, outreach, and administrative activities. Interns work with a largely adult client population and are unlikely to see individuals under the age of 20 years old. The practice provides client referrals so we assist interns in filling their caseload as is appropriate. In addition, we have a full administrative team, so you will receive ample help in anything related to practice management. For in-person sessions, we have an office located downtown on Michigan Avenue and a second office in the Lakeview neighborhood,  both conveniently located near public transportation.

    Qualifications

      • You have a flexible schedule, with availability on either Tuesday or Thursday afternoons for clinical supervision, and evenings and/or Saturdays for client sessions. While we have had interns who have completed the program while working part or even full-time, we expect your commitment to Mind Body Co-op to be prioritized.
      • You conduct yourself with maturity and are self-directive
      • You have a willingness and passion to engage in self-work as it relates to personal and professional development
      • You have excellent oral and written skills
      • You live in Chicago or the Chicagoland area for in-person sessions
      • You are committed to the underlying philosophical values of Mind Body Co-op
      • You have previous clinical experience providing therapy, preferred

    Clinical Psychology

    Clinical Psychology Doctoral Internship Program:

**Open to doctoral students who have completed at least three years of coursework and practice

Mind Body Co-op’s Doctoral Training Program offers doctoral-level interns an intense, thorough clinical psychology internship within 2 group practice settings in Chicago that focuses on clients’ connection with their mind and body for optimal balanced growth and healing.

We integrate ongoing education and training for competent clinical psychologists who will provide evidence-based treatment and assessment services to a diverse clientele of children, adolescents, and adults. Our supervisory staff is dedicated to creating a supportive atmosphere in which interns may achieve competency-based objectives in clinical and diagnostic skills.

The MBC Clinical Psychology Doctoral Internship is a full-time, 12-month training program that is not APA accredited. Doctoral interns are expected to work 40 hours per week and acquire a minimum of 2,000 total hours of work to complete the program. It begins each year during the first week of August, lasting until the following August. At least 800 of the total hours must be in direct service with clients.

Before deciding to apply to our program, please review our updated Internship Brochure very carefully. We want you to fully appreciate the structure of our program and what we have to uniquely offer. We hope that you will apply to our internship program because you believe it is a “great fit” with your professional goals for training and your future career development. We also encourage applications from individuals from underrepresented groups. Should you match with us, we will, in turn, work to provide you with the skills necessary to become a health service psychologist who is able to integrate science and practice in a clinical environment serving a diverse population.

We wish you luck as you navigate this challenging process and complete your degree. We appreciate the time you will invest in completing the application to our program and promise to thoroughly review your credentials. We look forward to learning more about you and possibly “meeting” you. If you have questions that are not answered in our written materials, feel free to contact us by email at training@mindbodycoopchicgao.com.

    Psychiatric Nurse Practioner

The focus of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Practicum/Preceptorship is to provide clinical hours and training for students pursuing a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification in a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or Masters in Nursing (MSN) degree program. The focus of this clinical rotation is to develop proficiency in the PMHNP role in an outpatient setting. Students learn mental health care concepts and how to assess and diagnose psychiatric disorders while also providing age-appropriate holistic treatment and lifestyle management including pharmacologic interventions, TMS, nutritional therapy, integrative and functional therapies, and individual, group, and family psychotherapies that promote mental health and reduce disability.

    Program Benefits

Students will work directly with an experienced PMHNP-BC preceptor while also having the opportunity to learn from other care team members including Clinical Psychologists, LMFTs, LCSWs, Counselors, Registered Dietitians, and other trainees in the clinic. As an outpatient clinic, our primary focus is providing an array of services aimed at assessing and treating both mental and physical health issues across the lifespan. We are skilled at triaging client needs, selecting effective treatments, and collaborating with community resources and higher levels of care.

    Why Mind Body Co-op?

Mind Body Co-op is a multi-disciplinary mental health clinic serving the unique mental
health needs of children, adults, families, couples, and groups. We are a trauma-informed and LGBTQ+ allied practice and treat all individuals in need of mental health care. Beyond individual therapy, we offer couples counseling, parent-child therapy, advanced psychological testing, EMDR, nutrition and eating disorder services, TMS, Perinatal and menopausal care, and medication therapy, including hormone replacement therapy and gender-affirming hormone therapy. PMHNP practicum students will join with other practicum students as part of the existing Mind Body Co-op training program in group supervision and other training experiences including medical rounds and clinic-wide case consultation. Students will also have the opportunity to develop a patient panel in the clinic.

    Application Process & Details

To apply and complete the practicum at Mind Body Co-op, your program must be accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Applicants who are invited to interview may be asked to provide writing samples and a letter of recommendation from a past clinical supervisor. If selected, our Medical Director or PMHNP clinical preceptor will contact you to schedule an interview.

We require a commitment for a minimum of 2 semesters in order to provide the highest quality of training and facilitate continuity of care for our patients. We provide some flexibility with training hours and both in-person and telehealth sessions but require a minimum of 2 days/week and attending weekly medical rounds on Thursdays from 9:00 am-10:30 am and our Mandatory Staff Meeting on Tuesdays at 1:00 pm
