PMHNP Practicum/Preceptorship
The focus of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Practicum/Preceptorship is to provide clinical hours and training for students pursuing a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification in a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or Masters in Nursing (MSN) degree program. The focus of this clinical rotation is to develop proficiency in the PMHNP role in an outpatient setting. Students learn mental health care concepts and how to assess and diagnose psychiatric disorders while also providing age-appropriate holistic treatment and lifestyle management including pharmacologic interventions, TMS, integrative and functional therapies, and individual, group, and family psychotherapies that promote mental health and reduce disability.
Program Benefits
Students will work directly with an experienced PMHNP-BC preceptor while also having the opportunity to learn from other care team members including Clinical Psychologists, LMFTs, LCSWs, Counselors, Registered Dietitians, and other trainees in the clinic. As an outpatient clinic, our primary focus is providing an array of services aimed at assessing and treating both mental and physical health issues across the lifespan. We are skilled at triaging client needs, selecting effective treatments, and collaborating with community resources and higher levels of care.
