Alice May BA, Supervised Psychotherapist
Modern life has a way of creating disconnection—both from others and ourselves. Whether because of physical distance, political differences, the relative ease of online interaction, or interpersonal anxieties, even those closest to us can feel a million miles away. It can be difficult to break out of old patterns and unlearn harmful messages about your identity. If you are looking for ways to be more present for yourself and your loved ones, therapy can be a great tool to look into yourself in a supportive and vulnerable environment.
I love working with people who want to reconnect with their inner child, rediscovering the joy and passion that can seem to disappear over time or perhaps was denied from a young age. You deserve to release overwhelming feelings of shame and guilt so you can focus on building a life that serves you. If you are a queer individual, someone who struggles with their body image and an eating disorder, or are neurodiverse pursuing authenticity in a sometimes hostile world, we may be a good fit. I also have experience working with people in recovery from substance use disorders and would love to help you continue that difficult work.
My approach is inspired by Internal Family Systems, psychodynamic, and person-centered modalities, as well as CBT. I am in the final year of my Master’s in Social Work at UIC and have a BA in English and Gender and Sexuality Studies from UChicago. If you think we would be a good match, I would love to meet you!
