Anne Carter, MSW, LCSW, CADC
Individual & Group Psychotherapist
Living in a city as big as Chicago offers many opportunities yet it can sometimes feel overwhelming, lonely, and even isolating. Are you hiding certain pieces of yourself from your friends or family to avoid conflict or fit in? You might feel like no one knows the real you. You’ve noticed a shift in how you deal with stress. Maybe it’s coming out as increased drinking, binging or restricting on food, or turning to other behaviors. Or maybe you’re in recovery but other parts of your life continue to feel unmanageable which feels frustrating.
You no longer need to feel trapped.
Change is possible and hope can be found. I became a therapist because I believe no one should stay feeling stuck, whether it’s in a relationship, family situation, substance abuse, or disordered eating. Through my own personal recovery process, I understand that hopelessness is not permanent. With a background working in Adventure Therapy, I believe nature can provide a sense of perspective, increase awareness, and bring a sense of calm. I am dedicated to helping clients strengthen their voices by working together to find and refine the truth and further launch into the recovery process. You are not alone, whether indoors or outdoors, we can explore the opportunities to find a sense of freedom and live a more abundant life.
I have MSW from Loyola University Chicago’s Master in Social Work program, am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and am a Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor. I have experience working in treatment centers in areas of addiction, alcoholism, eating disorders, and codependency. At Mind Body Co-op I also offer long-term process groups to further explore areas of support, communication patterns, and boundaries. I offer outdoor sessions in the warmer months. I am currently working towards my certification in EMDR Therapy and am currently healing trauma through EMDR with my clients. In addition to seeing clients individually, I am also the MBC Training Director and supervise the Masters level Psychotherapy trainees and Facilitate a Trauma Recovery Group.
