Pronouns – She/Her/Hers
As a licensed social worker, I have dedicated over 20 years of my career to women’s mental wellness with a specific focus on parenthood and trauma.
The journey to motherhood is both beautiful and scary. Despite our preparation efforts, this aspect of life has not and will not come without challenges. Are you having a hard time navigating the emotions and mental stressors associated with conception, pregnancy, and postpartum mental wellness? Have fertility challenges or assisted reproductive methods altered your reproductive story? Did your pregnancy glow come with an emotional rollercoaster? Did your birth plan go off course? Are you starting to question yourself, wondering why motherhood hasn’t come naturally to you? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, know that you are not alone. It really does take a village and many women have come face-to-face with these challenges. Luckily, with support they were able to accept and move past their situations, enjoying everything that comes with parenthood.
Trauma is another area that can emerge from various events experienced by both parents and non-parents alike. As a society, we are becoming more mindful of how other’s experiences may have affected our current state. Specifically, replacing the question of ‘What’s wrong with you?’ with ‘What happened to you?’ While we can’t change the circumstances of our past, we can absolutely alter our present-day emotional reactions to past challenges. My education includes a certificate in Traumatic Stress Studies from the Trauma Research Foundation. The certificate program is led by Bessel Van der Kolk, world-renowned Trauma Specialist, researcher, and author of the best-selling book “The Body Keeps the Score.” Let’s work together to move forward from the past, giving ourselves permission to be present in the joys of today.
With over 20 years of social service provision, my experiences have permitted me the opportunity to work with women in various areas. I have a Ph.D. and Master’s in social work from Jackson State University and I am a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Clinician (PMH-C) with Postpartum Support International. I am a Licensed Social Worker (LSW/Pre-Licensed) with over 1,500 hours toward clinical licensure (LCSW).
I have immediate availability for Telehealth appointments.
