Jyotsna (Joy) Dhar, MA, Ph.D. Candidate, (हिन्दी)
Bilingual (हिन्दी) Individual and Group Psychotherapist
Hey there. If you’ve landed on this corner of the internet, you might be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or confused. Perhaps you’ve just noticed your symptoms; perhaps you’ve been suffering for quite some time. Welcome. In the words of the revolutionary activist and author bell hooks, “Rarely, if ever, have any of us healed in isolation.”
You are not alone.
Be it through group or individual therapy – I’m here to hold space for you with empathy and non-judgment. As a clinician in training and former crisis counselor, I have experience working with a diverse set of clients navigating anxiety, depression, interpersonal conflicts, thoughts of suicide, self-harm, and struggles with systemic trauma related to race, sexuality, accessibility, and acculturation. My approach is rooted in multicultural feminist therapy, as I believe it is critical to take into account intersectionality, historical context, and interactions with oppressive systems in order to effectively walk alongside you. Radical compassion, humor, and a deep belief in the interconnectedness of all beings influence my therapeutic practice, as do my experiences as a 1.5-generation Desi immigrant, a community organizer, and an advocate for the liberation of all bodies and minds.
When not in the therapy space, I can be found listening to podcasts, sending memes to loved ones, or exploring coffee shops across Chicago. I received a Master’s degree in Counseling at Northwestern University, I spent 5 years working as a digital consultant for the National Institutes of Health. I hold a degree in International Affairs and Journalism from George Washington University and am a certified yoga teacher (CYT-200), mindfulness practitioner, and a member of the 2022 National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) Minority Fellowship Program cohort.
