    The power of TMS therapy

    • It’s comfortable. Most people feel only a light tapping sensation during treatments.
    • It’s non-invasive. The magnetic device works outside the body to target one area of the brain.
    • It’s anesthesia-free. Clients are fully awake in each session, under the care of a TMS therapist.
    • It’s effective. TMS has been shown to help 50% to 60% of people with severe treatment-resistant depression.

    What is TMS?

TMS is a safe and reliable option for treatment-resistant Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). TMS is an FDA-approved, non-invasive treatment that stimulates parts of the brain that control mood and thinking using a magnetic field, with few side effects.

In addition to treating depression, there is growing evidence that TMS can help with anxiety, insomnia, select neurological disorders, and multiple other conditions. TMS treatment is currently FDA-approved for MDDOCD & Peri & Post-natal OCD. Fortunately, most insurance providers cover TMS when administered following the FDA-recommended treatment guidelines.

What should I expect during a transcranial magnetic stimulation procedure?

During a session, an electromagnetic coil is placed against the scalp of your head. This coil delivers magnetic pulses that stimulate nerve cells in the region of your brain involved in mood control and depression. TMS sessions are scheduled five times a week and last no more than 30 minutes.  The MBC  team will help you get comfortable and your TMS therapist will stay with you throughout your session. Upon completing your session, you are free to return to work and resume normal activities.

TMS therapy gains effectiveness over a series of sessions rather than taking effect all at once. Your care team will talk with you about the number of sessions recommended and the best schedule to follow and then coordinate with your other health providers to address your individual needs.

    Is TMS right for you?

TMS may be for you if you continue to suffer from depressive symptoms and have not improved from traditional medication and talk therapy.

TMS is a great option if you are looking to overcome depression or obsessive/compulsive behaviors without taking and managing the side effects of medication and you feel like you are out of options. Additionally, TMS can be helpful for those who have a history of negative thinking patterns or regular self-criticism.

    A transformative treatment for depression

Depression is the #1 cause of disability in the U.S. for people aged 15 to 44. Depression can steal the energy, motivation, and clear thinking you need to navigate everyday challenges and simply enjoy life.

TMS uses a magnetic field to deliver a electric current via a TMS coil to stimulate the brainOriginally developed to treat severe depression resistant to other therapies, TMS therapy is an exciting advancement in care that provides relief when all other treatments have been unsuccessful. In fact, studies have shown that TMS treatment for depression can also relieve symptoms such as:

        • restlessness
        • sleep loss
        • irritability
        • shortness of breath
        • muscle tension
        • problems with concentration

    Side Effects of TMS Therapy?

TMS is a safe treatment for depression. It has minimal side effects compared to the side effects of anti-depressants.  Studies show that for people with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), long-term remission becomes less likely with each prescription medication treatment attempt. As antidepressant medications increase, so can the side effects.

The most common side effects our clients experience are scalp discomfort, headache, or fatigue, which typically resolves shortly after the session.
